Dennis was the head of sales when I started working as a rep at Oxoid. He was professional, energetic, supportive and was blessed with a hyperactive wit.
Back then the company was based in Southwark, in an old Fray Bentos pie factory where Dennis had his office and where I visited when at head office.
Even as a young man his hair had thinned significantly. In those days in the 70's we all sported rather long hair but Dennis's could not hide a section of shiny baldness. He had a sign on his desk in the office which consisted of a drawing of a man's head sporting a large bare patch. Below the drawing was the following comment:- "This is not a bald patch but a solar panel for a sex machine". Very Dennis and very cheeky even back then. Others may be able to attest to the veracity or otherwise of that claim!
He was a great teacher and mentor and remained a friend and mentor when our paths diverged.
He is sadly missed.
